Climate change and forest conversion. Challenges for Regional Governments after the Paris Agreement

Closing of the First Diploma in "Ecological Economic Zoning for Land Management"

P1080864The first Diploma in "Ecological Economic Zoning for Land Management" organized by Law, Environment and Natural Resources - DAR, the Research Institute of the Peruvian Amazon – IIAP, and the National University of the Peruvian Amazon – UNAP, was closed.

The Diploma was made in order to strengthen the capacities of professionals from Loreto for land use planning of the largest region of the Amazon; and was a product of the alliance between the academy, government and civil society on issues of land use planning.

Presentation of Geographic Object catalog and Forest Management Symbols catalog

P1080864The infrastructure of Spatial Data standardizes how the geographical information of a Department will work in the future, so that there will not be different official versions of the same map and will make it easier to exchange information on various topics with the same standard.

For this, the Regional Government of Loreto, with the support of DAR, defined how to work spatial data related to the political and administrative, hydrography, transportation, forest management districts, among others. The event formally presented the definition of these same processes for a sixth topic: Forest management, which is in the "Geographic Objects Catalog and Forest Management Symbols catalog ".

Validation of the study "Governance in the processes of land use planning in the Peruvian Amazon"

P1080864The study "Governance in the processes of Land Management in the Peruvian Amazon: the experiences of San Martin and Loreto" was presented to the officials of the Regional Government of Loreto and public institutions such as IIAP and PEDICP related to land use planning.

The meeting aimed to: Validate governance factors for land use planning processes in the Peruvian Amazon made based on the information collected; and reflect on the importance of governance in these processes, through dialogue.

Workshop "General and Technical Aspects for Land Planning"

P1080864The Regional Technical Commission for Ecological and Economic Zoning for Land Management of Loreto, developed this workshop with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Law, Environment and Natural Resources (DAR) and CAAAP to train members of the technical committee in the basics of Land Management.

Among the topics covered, the conceptual and policy framework of the process of Land Management, Scheme Sourcebook, Technical Instruments and Procedure Process Land Management, Financing Mechanisms for the implementation of Land Management, among others were discussed.

Presentation of "Proposals for land management: The Case of Palm Oil, and the Territorial Information System (SIT)"

P1080864DAR commissioned during 2014 the Group of Analysis and Economic Development (GRADE) the development of an "Economic Analysis of Cultivation of Oil Palm in Loreto region" in order to better guide decisions related to the expansion of the crop in Loreto, and the development of a "Proposal for territorial Information System (SIT)" to assist the processes of land use planning in Loreto. These proposals were presented at this event.

The aim of the event was to present an analysis of the socio-economic implications of cultivation of palm oil and a methodology proposal model for optimal location of this palm. This event was held with the presence of officials of the Regional Government of Loreto.

Perspectives on the development of oil palm cultivation in the province Alto Amazonas

P1080864DAR commissioned during 2014 the Group of Analysis and Economic Development (GRADE) the development of an "Economic Analysis of Cultivation of Palm Oil in Loreto region" in order to better guide decisions related to cultivation in the province, study which was the presentation at this event.

The purpose of the meeting was to present an analysis of the socio-economic implications of palm cultivation in the province and present "Methodology proposal for optimal location model palm oil", focused on the province of Alto Amazonas.

It was held with the presence of representatives of civil society organizations, farmers, public authorities in the province of Alto Amazonas.

Validation of EAE of Loreto PDRC 2021 with the Regional Government of Loreto

P1080864Continuing the process of the Strategic Environmental Assessment (EAE, in Spanish) of Regional Concerted Development Plan of Loreto 2021, this document was presented to representatives of the Regional Government of Loreto.

The EAE has incorporated during the formulation of PDRC indicators, targets and strategic actions on priority issues such as promoting sustainable forest management, ensuring the conservation of the basin headwaters of Loreto and monitoring of water quality for human consumption, developing and implementing the plan of life of the indigenous peoples of Loreto, among others.

Introducing the EAE of PDRC 2021 Loreto in Loreto CAR

P1080864At the First Extraordinary Session of the Regional Environmental Commission of Loreto (CAR-L), which is chaired by the Regional Governor, Lic. Fernando Meléndez Celis, through the Regional Management of Natural Resources and Environmental Management, socialized the preliminary document of Strategic Environmental Assessment of Regional Concerted Development Plan of Loreto (PDRC) in 2021, the same that has been prepared by the INFRAECO Consultant in a participatory way for the Regional Government of Loreto, in coordination with the Ministry of Environment and the support of civil partnership law, Environment and Natural Resources (DAR).

It was attended by over 50 representatives of public and private institutions that are members of the CAR-L. Participants of the CAR-L congratulated the Regional Government of Loreto to deepen environmental issues during the formulation of Loreto PDRC 2021.

Presentation of the "Geographic Object Catalogue of Fundamental Data of Loreto Department"

This publication was developed in the framework of the implementation of the Spatial Data Infrastructure of Loreto (IDE), which aims to provide spatial information in an orderly, standardized, and updated manner, enabling better decision-making for proper management of the territory and the services provided by the Regional Government of Loreto, contributing to the governance and transparency of governance.

A spatial data infrastructure is a set of policies, standards, organizations, human resources and technological resources that facilitate the exchange, production, acquisition, use and access to spatial information in a timely and inclusive manner. This white paper is one of the first results of the IDER process.

The catalog responds to the need for an updated base of Loreto and to solve the problems caused by duplication of isolated efforts of various institutions that have invested time, human and financial resources in their geographic information generating information. In the event, the presentation of the catalog of Loreto Geographic Object was in charge of the Planning, Budget and Territorial Conditioning of GORELOR also had as panelists representatives of ONGEI, IGN and PSFI.
